Who are we?
Driven by a few individuals with a passion for diving in 1992, Scuba Equipment Africa (SEA) has grown to a now vibrant team made up of people who love to dive, love adventure and the outdoors! Since 1992, Scuba Equipment Africa has been a distributor of Scubapro throughout Sub Saharan Africa - over 21 years of bringing divers the best products and service which now includes Subgear and Sealife Underwater Cameras! From inception, our company policy has always been to maintain professional distributor channels through the supply and support of only full-time dive businesses. We aim to ensure long term and deliberate growth and health of the industry by forming both brand and dealer loyalty with our leading premium and innovative dive products.
As we all know, over the past 15 years the internet has transformed many aspects of life, but recently more how we shop for goods and services. While it’s still nice to stop at a store to touch and see products, the convenience of online shopping can’t be beat. To keep up with the global trends as well as continue to align ourselves with innovative products and services, it only made sense for SEA to feature and gain an online presence. As such, The Scuba Pro Store was launched in 2013, servicing the end consumer, or diver as we know them, across Sub-Saharan Africa with Scubapro, Subgear and Sealife dive equipment. Our professional distribution channels and sustainable network of authorised dealers are still maintained with every transaction made through the online store being processed through one of our Authorised Dealers.

SCUBAPRO first appeared in the scuba diving world in the early 1960′s. A company called Healthways had the ambition to create a professional line of diving equipment hiring Dick Bonin and Gustav Dalla Valle to guide the new company – to be known as SCUBAPRO. Not long after the inception, Healthways declared bankruptcy in December 1962, however Bonin and Dalla Valle decided to purchase the name Scubapro for $1 to start their own company. Between them, they brought to the market many innovations for diving that are still being used today. In just two years, the 1964 catalogue featured everything a diver could want, including regulators, recompression chambers, and submarines. In 1965 the first version of the Jet fin appeared, and after 40 years the fin is still popular with technical and military divers worldwide and is one of the most copied scuba products ever sold. In 1966 the catalogue also added the Automatic Decompression meter, a forerunner to the modern dive computer. Back mount BC’s, weight integrated systems, the Classic style STAB jacket, and other innovations continued to be introduced throughout the years. It was in 1974 that the company Scubapro was sold the S.C Johnson Company (Johnson Outdoors) for $11 million.
UWATEC was founded in 1983 in Hallwil, in the heart of Switzerland. In 1987 they introduced their first dive computer, the Aladin PRO. It was quickly established as the standard in the industry. By the early 1990s, UWATEC was synonymous for diving computers. Joining Johnson Outdoors and SCUBAPRO in 1997, UWATEC continues to be a leading innovator in the industry.
Today, SCUBAPRO is a market leader and remains a premier manufacturer of scuba diving equipment. The company employs over 400 people in 17 locations spread over 13 countries, covering 4 continents. At least 1 in every 2 employees is a diver and in several countries over 80% are divers, and over a third are instructors.
